The Junior Incentive Scheme

The Junior Squad Operates a Junior Incentive Scheme. Juniors can gain incentive awards for progressing in their orienteering skills, attending more events and events of different types as well as going to events in different locations. Full details on the scheme are below. As juniors progress through awards they will be notified through the blog. At the AGM juniors will qualify for the highest award they have achieved in the year.

Incentive Scheme Results for 2013

Main Awards for Performance and Participation (certificates will be issued).

Paul P: Gold Award at Brown Level and Twenty Twenty participation award.
Rachel C: Compass Award at Light Green Level and Twenty Twenty participation award.
Eoghan K: Gold Award at Green and Top Ten participation award.
Helen P: Bronze Award at Blue Level.
Sophie P: Silver at Light Green Level and Top Ten participation award.
Andrew E: Gold at Orange Level and Top Ten participation award.
Peter R: Gold at Orange Level and Top Ten participation award.
Luke C: Silver Award at Yellow Level and Twenty Twenty participation award.
Simon P: Compass at Orange Level.

Junior Incentive Scheme

LVO operates a local Junior Incentive Scheme. The details for this are:

Performance. To reward steady development and to encourage progression. Awards are issued at each colour level and all colour rated courses delivered by NIOA count (club and NI colour series)– White, Yellow, Orange, Long Orange, Light Green, Green, Blue, Brown.
  • Compass Badge - complete 3 courses at the same colour (may be shadowed by adult)
  • Bronze Badge – complete 3 courses alone and within 2 times the standard time at the same colour.
  • Silver Badge – complete 3 courses alone and within 1.5 times the standard time at the same colour.
  • Gold Badge - complete 3 courses alone and within 1.25 times the standard time at the same colour.
The Badge awards will follow the BOF guidelines for National awards
The standard time against which other times are measured will depend on the number of competitors.

  • If <11 competitors The standard time will be the winner's time
  • If 11-20 competitors The standard time will be the average of the 1st and 2nd placed competitors
  • If > 20 competitors The standard time will be the average of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed competitors
Participation: To reward commitment and encourage attendance at wider events.
Enthusiasm Awards:
  • Top Ten Award – participation in 10 races.
  • 20:20 Award – participation in 20 races (must include one score or sprint and 2 pre ‘O’).
  • Half Century Award - participation in 50 races (must include one score, one sprint, 5 pre ‘O’ and one event outside of NI).
  • Centurion Award - participation in 100 races (must include 3 sprint, 5 pre ‘0’, 3 score and 3 events outside of NI).
Variety Awards:
  • Sprint Award– issued for participating in 3 sprint races.
  • Pre ‘O” Award – issued for participating in 5 pre ‘O’ competitions.
  • Score Award - issued for participating in 3 score races.
  • Marco Polo Award – participation at 3 events outside on NI in 2 years.
Finally British Orienteering operates a National Incentive Scheme.
  • Navigation Challenge: Complete 3 races of the same colour (TD level). Print your certificate once achieved.
  • Racing Challenge:  Members are eligible for a Racing Challenge certificate after successfully completing 3 colour coded courses (of the same TD) within the following times:  
    • Gold Award. Participants time < Course Length (KM) x 12.5mins
    • Silver Award. Participants time < Course Length (KM) x 15mins
    • Bronze Award. Participants time < Course Length (KM) x 20mins
